Nexium 24HR capsules are intended for use by adults 18 years of age and older. Children under the age of 18 should consult a doctor before taking this product. Heartburn in children may sometimes be caused by a serious condition. Talk to your doctor before using Nexium 24HR capsules if you’re pregnant or breast-feeding.

Swallow one whole Nexium 24HR capsule with a glass of water before eating in the morning. Do not chew or crush the capsule. Nexium 24HR capsules should be taken once a day, every day for 14 days. It may take between one to four days of treatment for full effectiveness. Do not take more than 1 capsule a day. Do not take Nexium 24HR capsules for longer than 14 days unless you’ve been instructed to do so by your doctor.

You may repeat a 14-day course every 4 months. Do not take for more than 14 days or more often than every 4 months unless directed by a doctor.

Do not use Nexium 24HR capsules if you have an esomeprazole allergy. Keep this product out of reach of children. Seek medical attention right away or contact Poison Control if overdosed.  If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use.

If you experience any of the following, do not use Nexium 24HR capsules:

• trouble or pain swallowing food, vomiting with blood, or bloody or black stools
• heartburn with light-headedness, eating or dizziness
• chest pain of shoulder pain with shortness of breath, sweating; pain spreading to arms, neck, or shoulders, or light-headedness
• frequent chest pain
• These may be signs of a serious condition. See your doctor.

If you experience any of the following, talk to a doctor before using Nexium 24HR capsules: 

• heartburn for over 3 months. This may be a sign of a more serious condition
• frequent wheezing, particularly with heartburn
• unexplained weight loss
• nausea or vomiting
• stomach pain

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using Nexium 24HR Capsules if you are:

• taking a prescription drug. Acid reducers may interact with certain prescription drugs.

Stop taking Nexium 24HR capsules and speak to your doctor if you need to take this product for longer than 14 days or you need to take a course of treatment more frequently than once every four months. Consult your doctor if your heartburn continues or worsens, you get diarrhea, or you develop joint pain or a rash.

What is Nexium 24HR?

Nexium 24HR is an OTC medication that is used in treating frequent heartburn (heartburn that occurs two or more days per week) in adults (age 18 years and older). Esomeprazole 20mg is the active ingredient in Nexium 24HR.

Who should take Nexium 24HR?

People who are 18 years and older who experience frequent heartburn (occurring two or more days a week) can take Nexium 24HR.

How do I use Nexium 24HR?

Take one Nexium 24HR capsule with a glass of water before eating each morning for 14 consecutive days.
Do not take more than one capsule each day. You should not chew the capsule or empty its contents into food and drink.
Do not use Nexium 24HR for longer than 14 days unless your healthcare professional directs your to do so. You can repeat a 14-day regimen once every four months after consulting your doctor.

Am I getting the same medicine in the tablet versus the capsule versus the ClearMinis™ capsule?

Yes, all forms of Nexium 24HR have the same formula, with an active ingredient of 20mg of esomeprazole.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If you miss or forget to take a dose of Nexium 24HR, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you have missed a dose and it’s almost time for your next one, do not take the missed dose. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. If you have more questions about use or dosage, contact your doctor.

Will Nexium 24HR be safe to take with my other heartburn medications?

You should ask your physician or pharmacist before using Nexium 24HR while taking other medications.
